at the end of the quest chain, you have to make 10 of each kind of good, plus 2500 coins so basically you are NOT done when you get the embassy progress bar to the end, you still have to do that last quest which takes about 8-10 hours to do, so don't cut it close your first time or you could get screwed there is an add-on called FOE Helper that has a module that will help you compute your requirements for the settlements and do planning it's a good thing to overload on money if you can't build a goods building, then build an excess of shrines, as many as you can, then save up the money when you have plenty of money, take down the excess shrines and build goods buildings try to put the embassy in the center of the settlement that tends to lead to the most efficient layouts another diplomacy trick is to use an empty building space so for example, let's say the next advance will give you a mead brewery and you will be deleting an axe smith to build the new mead brewery once you qualify for it first delete the axe smith, then build 9 runestone where the axe smith used to be to get the diplomacy you need, upgrade to get access to the mead brewery delete all the runestones, then build the brewery when you need more diplomacy, delete all your roads, build runestones until you have enough diplomacy where the roads used to be, upgrade your achievement, then replace all the roads houses do not need a road connection to supply population therefore you can maximize space by packing 4 shacks into 4x4 squares the money that shacks supply is worthless never have idle goods buildings if you can't fund constant good production, tear down the goods building and put up money making buildings you need to logon a lot, especially at the beginning a lot of the productions are 4 hour productions, so if you sleep for 8 hours, well you just lost 50% of your production you can do it under the time limit without getting up every 4 hours, but it will take longer I haven't found any of the advice sources on doing Vikings to be very useful.
